My cousin, Tammy, got me thinking about eating Hummus again. She said she dips celery sticks in it for a snack. Yum! I used to eat it a long time ago when I was dating hubs until that fateful night when he became deathly ill after eating it and blamed the hummus for his food poisoning. And it didn't help that I rushed to his house to help him and asked him where his parents kept the thermometer. He pointed to the bathroom so I headed in, brought the thermometer out and took his temperature. When his dad arrived home he asked why the anal thermometer was sitting on the counter. We all looked at each other and, while nobody wanted to laugh at the poor boy throwing up, we all did! Even hubs! He laughed and threw up at the same time! It was quite a feat!
So I recently started buying it again. Thirteen years is enough to forget your horrific suffering cause by a food or liquid item, right? Although, come to think of it, I still haven't been able to touch Amaretto since that one night......and that was WAY longer than thirteen years ago....but I digress...
Hummus really is great and it comes in so many different flavors. They call it "a nutritionist's dream" because it's made with very healthful ingredients. It has sesame seed paste, olive oil, garbanzo beans, and sometimes roasted red peppers or other veggies depending on what type you buy. It's a little expensive in those teeny, little tubs at the deli counter, so I decided to try to make my own. WOW! It was easy!!
I got the recipe off allrecipes.com...it was Hummus III. If you try to make it I would suggest reading the comments and how people tweaked it to make it better. We tried it just like it was and it was very good. Next time, though, more garlic and some roasted red peppers are going in! It was delicious and not very expensive! I would highly suggest giving it a try!!! Hubs was brave and DID try it, but I saw a spark of a flashback in his eyes and he quietly put his chip down. Oh, well, at least I am allowed to have it in the house again!

I was still in high school the night of Doug's ill-fated run-in with hummus, but boy do I remember it! Thanks for recanting the story and giving me a good belly laugh this morning -- not quite one of those where I laugh so hard I can't breath, but close. It's not that I enjoy Doug's misery. It's just that situation was soooo funny. (Laughing, I would like to point out is a great ab workout, so we really should try to do it more often...) BTW, I have to defend you. Who still has an anal thermometer when their oldest child is 16...
ReplyDeleteHahahahahaha! I do remember now-you were there doing your homework! Wasn't that just a priceless "Fitch" moment???
